JOEL MORELLO’S BIOGRAPHY:

Joel Morello gained his M.F.A. in directing at the University of Portland as a Theatre Generalist. He has been a set and lighting designer throughout his time in theatre. Joel Morello’s career in theatre has included directing over 40 plays. He has been the interim Artistic Director for Chemainus Theatre. As an actor, he has worked with at least 40 directors and gleaned insights into the directing process from them all. Some were outstanding professional directors and of course some not so outstanding. Some directed acting and some acted as if they were directing.

He has acted in well over 45 plays. Joel Morello was Guest Artist with the Colorado Shakespeare festival, Santa Cruz Shakespeare Company, Sun Valley Shakespeare Festival and Laughing Horse Theatre. He has been honoured by several acting awards, Portland Critics award for Iago, Best supporting actor at laughing Horse Theatre. In addition to the Kennedy Centre’s Irene Ryan awards; Cool Font Award, and guest artist for New Playwrights Workshop. He has taught acting, directing, design and conducted workshops in all these areas.

Mr. Morello has consulted on several theatre designs. For Rosebud Theatre, he consulted on the theatre design at Chemainus, Lincoln City High school’s new theatre and most recently the new theatre where he last taught.

Now retired and is living in Camrose.
